ABOUT US

We are Habitat for Humanity of Hobbs, New Mexico Area Affiliate, serving the Greater Hobbs area in Lea County, New Mexico. We have given a hand up (rather than a handout) to 50 new homeowners in our community and are building more homes each build year! (September-May).

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

OUR VISION
OUR MISSION
NON-PROSELYTIZING POLICY

A world in which everyone has a decent place to live.

Habitat for Humanity of Hobbs, New Mexico Area works in partnership with local organizations, businesses, and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building simple, decent homes in Las Cruces where people can live and grow into all that God intended.

Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations will not proselytize. Nor will HFH work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with HFH. This means that HFH will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

WHAT WE DO

We are working to make a difference in the lives of those living in substandard housing conditions in Hobbs, NM. Helping families get into good housing conditions is just a fraction of what we accomplish. We are also changing the outlook members of these families have on life.

A dual applicant family is required to invest at least 500 “sweat equity” hours into the construction of Habitat homes and other Habitat activities that are required to make the homes a reality.

Volunteer labor, funds, and building materials are donated by individuals, churches, businesses, community organizations, RV Care-A-Vanners visiting the community.

The homes are then sold to the partner families through non-profit, no-interest mortgages. The house payments the families make are then “recycled” to build more homes for others in need.

Thousands of volunteer hours go into the building of a home. How about taking a few hours to join us in making a difference in Hobbs, NM?

WHY WE DO IT

Imagine living where you did not feel safe due to physical threats, gang harassment, drug rings or drunks.

Imagine if your home did not have heat or air conditioning.

Imagine the fear of falling through rotting floors just crossing a room in your home.

Imagine your household electrical system being a combination of extension cords.

Imagine plumbing leaks damaging multiple rooms in your home.

Imagine not having a yard or safe place for your children to play.

Imagine being the breadwinner and not having a bedroom to sleep in.

Imagine living in small quarters with multiple families.

Imagine your landlord refusing to fix problems or being afraid of negative consequences if you request repairs.

Imagine roof damage, usually from poorly maintained evaporative coolers, resulting in leakage which causes wall and floor damage inside.

Imagine only having one operable door into a home and windows that do not operate should a fire break out.

Imagine the lack of ventilation when windows do not operate.

These are the housing conditions we at Habitat for Humanity of Hobbs, NM are working to eliminate in Hobbs.
